Opera Hunter & Newcastle Theatre Company have a very exciting co-production December 4, 5 and 6. A double bill of the opera Cavalleria Rusticana & the best of musicals with the best of musical theatre performers.
Wayne Rogers performs his star piece‘I am What I Am’ from La Cage aux Follies. Wayne, star of television’s Australia’s Got Talent will appear in full feathered dress & wow his audiences once again. Nick Stabler will sing ‘Why God’ from Miss Saigon, his showstopper form the Opera Hunter production. Rachel Davies sings ‘She Used to be Mine’ from Waitress, the hit Broadway Musical by an all female team, coming to Sydney in 2020. Drew Holmes will present ‘I Don’t Understand the Poor’ from A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder,Stephanie Priest sings ‘Always Starting Over’ from the 2015 Broadway hit ‘If/Then’ by Brian Yorkey. There are choruses from South Pacific, Fiddler on the Roof and Annie, leading Opera Hunter soloist Michael Saunders sings‘This Nearly Was Mine’ from South Pacific and a featured performance from Melbourne tenor Samuel Thomas Holland of ‘Joanna’ from Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd.
Mascagni’s one act opera/drama Cavalleria Rusticana is one of the all time favourite Italian operas, with the famous Easter Hymn chorus, the lovely Intermezzo, and powerful music depicting Love, Life, Murder & Revenge as only the Italians can do. Samuel Thomas Holland will thrill audiences with his powerful tenor, as Turiddu, Alfio is sung by the beautiful Baritone voice of PJ Willis, Soprano Marian Moroney sings the stunning show piece of Santuzza, mezzo soprano Joanna Andrew is Lola, and mezzo soprano Megan Williams sings the mother Lucia. The fine Opera Hunter chorus has much to do in this opera. Director is Michael Blaxland, Music Director is Mercia Buck.
